Carneys Point Fire Dept. Launches Volunteer Recruitment Campaign

Carneys Point Fire Department wouldn’t exist without community members who are willing to volunteer their time to fight fires and keep the public safe. As one of the busiest fire departments in Salem County, Carneys Point Fire Department answers more than 700 calls per year and needs more volunteers to join its action-packed team.

To find more community members willing to respond to emergencies, Carneys Point Fire Department launched a volunteer recruitment campaign. Its new website, www.ProtectCarneysPoint.org, showcases that the fire department is “The Point Where Training & Lifesaving Meet.” The community can learn more about the volunteer experience, and read FAQS and member testimonials. The department is capturing leads through an inquiry form on the “Join Us” page. In addition to the website, the campaign will feature social media, lawn signs, a booth display, a 30-second video, e-mails and other marketing tactics.

The campaign is funded in its entirety through the Staffing Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“If you’re looking to volunteer and be part of a dedicated team, Carneys Point Fire Department is the place to be. We’ll also provide you with comprehensive training and all the necessary gear,” said Chief Ted Stranahan.

No prior experience is needed to join. Carneys Point Fire Department is seeking volunteers with a variety of skills to serve in the following roles:

  • Firefighter – Perform all functions related to fire suppression and rescue operations, including interior fire suppression, search and rescue, vehicle fires or accidents, hazmat incidents and more.
  • Junior Firefighter (ages 16-17) – Train and learn the equipment and techniques needed to be an active firefighter. Juniors can start Firefighter I courses at the local fire academy and help at fire calls.
  • Fire Police – Keep first responders and the public safe at the scene of emergencies by regulating traffic.
  • Ladies Auxiliary – Organize fundraisers and events while having the opportunity to interact with the community.

To bring attention to the need for more volunteers, Carneys Point Fire Department hired the services of The Communication Solutions Group Inc., a full-service public relations and marketing firm based in Jenkintown, Pa. The company successfully ran recruitment campaigns for local fire and rescue organizations across Pennsylvania and New Jersey, including West Deptford Fire Department, Toms River Fire District No. 1, Ship Bottom Fire Company and more.
